Coal products

Coal is the only type of fuel produced in sufficient quantities on the territory of Ukraine. Expected reserves of coal in Ukraine are 117.5 billion tons, including prospected - 56 billion tons. During the last 15 years the annual coal production had been making up from 72 to 83 million tons.

International trade in coal is carried out based on long term contracts (most of it) and spot delivery. In the last decade electronic trading platforms, OTC markets of derivative financial instruments and futures exchanges started its development on coal market.

Government policy aims to increase coal production to increase state energy security. In Ukraine in accordance with the economic reforms Presidential Programm of Ukraine for 2012 - 2014 years "Rich society, competitive economy, effective state" the reform of the coal industry is being implemented. Decree of Cabinet of Ministers №1070 of October 26th, 2011 adopted the Concept of the transition to the exchange form of coal trading.

An important step towards liberalization and increasing of the coal industry efficiency is creation of the free competitive exchange market, which will bring in pricing mechanism based on real coal supply and demand balance.

Taking into account market needs CE "Ukrainian Energy Exchange" is implementing project of coal products exchange trading through Electronic Trading System (ETS).

Electronic trading system is designed for all categories of market participants: manufacturers, consumers and traders.
To participate in the exchange trading on CE "Ukrainian Energy Exchange" it is necessary to pass the accreditation procedure, as described in the section "Membership (accreditation)."
